Highlanders Drop Midweek Bout to LMU, 11-5

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - UC Riverside fell to the Loyola Marymount Lions, 11-5, in their midweek matchup at Page Baseball Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Sean Blandino put the Highlanders on the scoreboard first, sending in a run in the top of the second inning. Blandino smacked a double to left center to send Jayden Lopez, on base from a walk, home.
In the bottom of the third, the Lions answered back with four runs. One scored on a wild pitch, one on a passed ball, and one on a throwing error. Just one unearned run was scored by LMU on a single in the inning.
Blandino hit a two-run home run in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit down, 4-3.
The Lions did some more damage in the bottom of the six, with three runs coming across off two LMU singles.
Andrew Rivas grounded out at first to score Blandino in the top of the eighth, cutting the Lion's lead down to 7-4.
Zachary Chamizo hit a ball through the right side jn the same frame, sending Nick Poss home to bring the Highlanders within two runs of Loyola Marymount.
The Highlanders bullpen couldn't hold the Lions at bay in the top of the eighth inning, with four more runs coming across home plate for a final score of 11-5.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS

Blandino had a hand in three of five Highlander runs this evening, going two for four (a double and homerun) with three RBI and one run.

UC Riverside will resume Big West play on the road Friday, April 12, traveling to nearby Fullerton for a three-game set against CSUF. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
