Highlanders Put Up Top Marks at Steve Scott Invitational

Jumpers, distance runners shine in return to UC Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. - UC Riverside Track & Field continued to pile on top marks Friday and Saturday at the Steve Scott Invitational at UC Irvine's Anteater Stadium.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • UC Riverside collected top 10 finishes in Friday's women's long jump from Melanie Ceballos (5.98m/19-07.25) and reigning Big West Women's Field Athlete of the Week Chelsea Aninyei (5.84m/19-02.00). Aninyei later won Saturday's triple jump with a 12.80m/42-00.00 while Ceballos finished fourth (12.29m/40-04.00). 
  • Kazu Kimura (3rd) and Aaron Fruge (5th) turned in top-five finishes in the men's long jump at UCI. Kimura tied his collegiate best set at the Pacific Coast Invitational.  
  • Joy Weber placed fifth in the women's 5000 at 17:35.79 and Tyler Kaan won the event on the men's side with a 14:36.63.  
  • UC Riverside capped off day one with a trio of top 10s in the mile: Isatu N'Diaye (2nd/4:56.90), Marissa Hehir (5th/5:01.28) and Andrew Parkinson (4th/4:09.95).  
  • The Highlanders' women's 4x100 tandem of Olivia-McIntosh-Adams, Raykiyat Olukoju, Avianna Carrillo and D'Lainey Nakamoto won the event and turned in the second-best time in program history with a 45.53. McIntosh-Adams later PR'd in the 200m (24.30) and was one of three Highlanders in the top eight.  
  • Maxwell Jefferson collected his second straight top-four finish in the 110H (14.43) on Saturday afternoon.  
  • Kyan Thomas finished third in the triple jump on Saturday with a 14.93m/48-11.75, and Aidan Dominguez finished fifth in the mile (4:23.76).  
  • UCR's women's 4x400 crew polished off the Steve Scott Invitational with a 3:42.85 event win.

NOTABLES 

  • Ceballos' long jump bumped her up to seventh in program history with her third top 10 mark of the season and the first of the weekend. 
  • UCR's women's 4x100 mark is a new season best and was .01 seconds shy of tying a program record. 
  • Parkinson turned in the fastest mile on the men's side since 2023 and second fastest since 2016. 

UP NEXT 

  • UC Riverside will split next weekend between the Titan Tune-Up on Friday, May 9 at the Big West Multis at Long Beach State.
