Box Score SAN DIEGO – UC Riverside wrapped up the week of play on Sunday night at the SDSU Sports Deck with a 4-0 defeat to San Diego State.
UCR pushed a ball into the midfield early on to get a jump on things in the first five minutes. Mia DiLeo advanced a ball into the final third for Sanaa Guyness on the attacking front, who was beaten to the ball before she could try a shot on net.
UC Riverside tested the Aztecs again in the 12th minute with a lofted shot from Rylee Lewis on the left side. UCR again leaned on the ball in the 18th. Sarah Mahfoud dispossessed an Aztec and pushed the ball towards Spenser Gonzales, who lobbed it to DiLeo in the attacking half to earn a corner.
San Diego State generated offense on its next trip down field and opened the scoring in the 21st minute before doubling the lead in the 25th.
UCR's midfield continued to generate chances, this one in the 50th minute. Finley Aghassi controlled the ball down middle of the pitch and played it off to Guyness, who recycled it behind her and set up a long-range shot on goal from Gonzales. Trinity Hale held solid positioning in the 55th minute to make quick work of a close-range attempt.
The Aztecs added goals in the 73rd and 78th minutes to close off the victory.
UCR returns to action on Thursday, September 18 to host Loyola Marymount at the UC Riverside Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm and tickets are available at www.GoHighlanders.com.
