Long Beach, CA—Diana Sanguinetti s penalty kick in the 83rd minute was the deciding goal as Long Beach State handed the Highlanders their second Big West loss of the season, 2-1 at Long Beach Sunday.
Allison Reeves scored first for the 49ers, tallying in the 26th minute off of assists by Sanguinetti and Kristin Travis.
Kristi Tanaka tied it in the 80th minute, firing from 35 yards out. The HIghlanders had several scoring opportunities, but goalkeeper Hannah Cochrun was up to the task, recording seven saves on 10 UCR shots. The 49ers had 20 shots on UCR 'keeper Katie Blank, who made four saves.
The winning score came after Abie Curry was knocked down in the box by a Highlander defender. Sanguinetti then took the penalty kick and scored at 82:11.
The Highlanders are off until November 1, when they will host UC Santa Barbara in their final homestand of the season.
