San Diego, CA—The UC Riverside Highlanders opened the season on the wrong foot Friday with a 5-1 loss at San Diego State University.
Sophomore forward Jessica Armel scored her first goal of the season in the 14th minute to tie the match at 1-1, but the Aztecs answered with four unanswered goals over the next 76 minutes to pull away.
Highlander goaltender Katie Blank faced 15 shots, five on goal, and made three saves. The Highlanders had just three shots on the afternoon.
UCR returns to action on Monday at 1:00 PM against San Jose State at the UCR Lower Field.
