Nevada—The UC Riverside Highlanders defeated the University of Nevada Wolfpack 3-0 in the opening game of the Wolf Pack Classic at Mackay Stadium on Friday.
Junior Kelli Fahres scored with 27:50 minutes left in the half off an assist from senior Colleen Sweeney. The match then went scoreless until the final four mintues when freshman Renee Scachetti slipped one past Wolfpack goalkeeper Megan Tarpenning on a pass from freshman Tanya Decman. Freshmen Ashlee Stephens finished the scoring with an unassisted goal with two minutes left in the game.
Senior Kristin Cocks recorded the shutout with four saves while Tarpenning had seven saves. The Highlanders (2-3) outshot the Wolfpack (1-4), 15-7.
The Highlanders return to action on Sunday against Eastern Washington University at 1 pm.
