
Highlanders Drop Third Straight In 3-0 Loss To San Diego

Riverside—The University of San Diego Toreros scored two early goals and played tough defense to keep the lead in a 3-0 victory at the Lower Fields at UC Riverside on Friday.
The Toreros got on the board in the first eight minutes of the contest when midfielder Brooke Roby took a centering pass from Katie Allen and scored to put the Toreros on the board. Highlanders’ goal keeper Katie Blank came out to challenge Roby who made a move to beat her to the right post and chip it into the open net.
Twelve minutes later, the Toreros added to their lead when forward Michelle Rowe’s shot ricocheted out in front of the net and LeAnne Klopschinski pushed the ball past Blank for a 2-0 advantage.
USD added to the lead eight minutes into the second half when Brenna Mullen stole the ball from Blank and chipped the ball into the empty net. With the loss, UCR fell to 0-3 on the season, while the Toreros improved to 2-1.
The Highlanders return to action on Sunday, as they play host to the Hawaii Rainbow Wahine at 3 pm at the Lower Fields.
