Highlanders to Face Long Beach State Friday In Big West Tournament

Riverside—The UC Riverside women’s soccer team will play Long Beach State in the semifinals of the 2005 Big West Conference Tournament Friday at 5 p.m. at Titan Stadium in Fullerton. The game between the second-seeded Highlanders and third-seeded 49ers will be a rematch of last Friday's 0-0 double overtime tie in Riverside.
UCR (11-3-4, 4-0-3) is making its second appearance in the BWC Tournament in school history. The Highlanders previously qualified in 2003, bowing out in the semifinals, 3-2 to UC Santa Barbara. UCR navigated the conference season undefeated in attaining its highest-ever finish in the Big West, topping its third place finish from 2003. The Highlanders enter the tournament unbeaten in its last ten games, having not lost since September 25.
Long Beach State (12-5-2, 3-3-1) is making its first-ever appearance in the Big West Tournament, having placed third in the conference standings. The 49ers posted their first winning season in two decades and tied the school record for wins.
This will be the sixth meeting between the two teams, with LBSU holding a 2-1-2 series lead.
The winner of Friday's semifinal will meet the victors from the second semifinal between hosts and top-seed Cal State Fullerton and fourth-seeded Pacific. The tournament final is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. at Titan Stadium, with the champion earning the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
