Renee Scachetti Leads Highlanders Past Eastern Washington, 2-0

Cheney, WA—Senior midfielder Renee Scachetti had a hand in both of UC Riverside's goals in a 2-0 victory over Eastern Washington Friday in Spokane, WA. The Highlanders won their second straight game to improve to 4-1-1 while the Eagles drop to 1-6.

After a scoreless first half, Scachetti assisted on the first goal for the Highlanders at 50:10 as freshman forward Jenna Leonti found the net from the right side. It was Leonti's second goal of the season and Scachetti's team-leading third assist, one shy of her career-high. Scachetti herself scored 20 minutes later on a header off a corner kick from junior forward Kelly Ferguson to give the Highlanders a two-goal cushion. The goal gave Scachetti seven points in her last two games and a team-leading 13 points for the season. She paces the Highlanders with five goals and Friday marked her third multiple-point game of the season.

UCR held a 20-9 shot advantage in the game, including 11-3 in the second half. Junior goalie Tawny Poggio recorded her first shutout of the season with four saves. EWU goalkeeper Tiera Como had seven saves. UCR improved to 3-0 all-time against the Eagles.
