Long Beach State, CA—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team dropped its second straight conference match Sunday as Mariko Strickland's score in the 24th minute held up for a 1-0 Long Beach State victory (Box Score).
It was the second straight match in which the Highlanders (8-7-1, 2-3-1) were held scoreless, and the loss dropped the team under .500 in conference play with two matches remaining on the schedule.
The 49ers defense held UC Riverside in check for the entire match allowing just three shots on the evening, none of which were on goal. Brittany Goetz recorded seven saves between the pipes for UC Riverside.
The Highlanders return home this Sunday, October 28, for the team's final home match of the season. Cal State Fullerton is the opponent as UC Riverside celebrates Senior Day for the Class of 2008. The regular season ends the following week with a road match at UC Irvine on November 4.
