Lennala and Ducatenzeiler Stay Hot for UCR In 2-0 Win Over Wyoming
9/28/2007 4:42:00 PM | Women's Soccer
UC Riverside 2, Wyoming 0 - Box Score
Riverside—The UCR Highlanders improved their record to 6-3-0 with a 2-0 win over the University of Wyoming Cowgirls (4-5-0), during a cool, late afternoon match at UCR Soccer Stadium.
UC Riverside came out fast in the first half as they applied the majority of the offensive pressure. By the end of the half the shots were in favor of the home squad 9-2. However, Wyoming’s goaltender, Ashley Sheppard made enough key saves to keep the game scoreless, until the 34th minute.
At 33:22 Natalie Ducatenzeiler took a pass from Kristina Kelly at the right corner of the 18-yard box. Somehow the talented freshman got a shot off just before the charging keeper arrived. The ball rolled slowly into the open net, on Ducatenzeiler’s fourth goal of the season, then tying her with Tessa Lennala for the team lead.
Lennala who had been denied by UW’s Sheppard on four occasions already in the match finally found the back of the net with a rocket shot from the 18-yard box that beat Sheppard to the right side of the goal, regaining her team lead with five goals on the season. Ducatenzeiler picked up an assist on the goal for her third point of the match.
Deanna Borgelt was solid in goal for the Highlanders as she made five saves, four in the second half, on her way to her second shutout of the season.
Sunday the team heads out on the road as they face Loyola Marymount in the last non-conferece match of the season. The match is slated to start at 1:00 pm.
