Riverside—The UC Riverside women's soccer team posted its second consecutive shutout to open the 2008 season with a 4-0 win over the CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners on Sunday afternoon at the UCR Soccer Stadium. The Highlanders had a height advantage at nearly every position and used it to full effect winning the majority of 50-50 balls on the day and out-shooting CSUB in the first half 9-5.
CSUB kept things close in the first period, but Denise Thomas scored UCR’s first goal with 4:12 to go before the break. UCR midfielder Heidi Garrett wasted no time in making CSUB pay, scoring mere moments after Quaresma left the field. The Highlanders pushed the pace for the remainder of the game out-shooting the Roadrunners 11-2 in the second.
Letty Villalpando and Kristy Adcock added goals for UCR with Adcock drilling one from 40 yards out over the outstretched arms of the Bakersfield keeper.
Next up for UC Riverside is a pair of road games in the Cornhusker State – August 29 at Nebraska and August 31 at Creighton.
