8/31/2008 1:14:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Creighton 2, UC Riverside 1 - Box Score
Omaha, NE—The UCR Women's Soccer Team's (3-1) perfect season came to an end Sunday afternoon as a Creighton penalty kick with 45 seconds left in the match gave the Jays a 2-1 win over the Highlanders.
Coming in to the match, UCR had yet to give up a goal on the young season, but the Jays changed that quickly as Marcy Gans drilled a shot into the back of the net with just two minutes and 30 seconds gone in the game.
Creighton took that 1-0 lead into the locker room at halftime, but Heidi Garrett (Riverside, CA) knotted things up with 9:59 gone in the second period on an unassisted goal - her second of the year. The teams appeared headed to overtime until the Jays were awarded a penalty kick with 45 seconds remaining in the game and Gans delivered with her second goal of the day.
Next up for UC Riverside are a pari of home games - Friday, September 5 at 7 p.m. against Sacramento State and Sunday, September 7 at 1 p.m. against San Jose State.
Notes
Senior foward Tessa Lennala's (Temecula, CA) three goals and six points on the season lead the Big West Conference. Britanny Goetz' (Irvine, CA) goals against average of 0.55 is second best in the Big West.
