Aztecs Trip Up Highlanders With Second Half Surge To Take 3-1 Win

San Diego State 3, UC Riverside 1 - Box Score
San Diego, CA—The UC Riverside Women’s Soccer Team hopped on a bus Friday down the 215 to San Diego State where they were looking to pull off an upset on the road against the Aztecs.
The teams played evenly in the first period with the Highlanders outshooting the Aztecs by the slimmest of margins, 8-7. Neither team found the back of the net, however, as the stanza ended in a scoreless tie. It was the Highlanders who struck quickly in the second as Tessa Lennala (Temecula, CA) picked up her fourth goal of the season on a shot from 25 yards out.
Just when it looked like the Highlanders had momentum on their side, the wheels came off the proverbial wagon. The Aztecs scored less than a minute after the Highlanders and added the go ahead goal six minutes after that on a penalty kick. San Diego State outshot UCR in the second, 12-3, picking up an insurance goal with under 13 minutes to play. The loss drops the Highlanders record on the year to 4-4-1, while the Aztecs improved to 3-4-1.
UC Riverside has a week off before once again traveling down 215, this time to take on the Toreros of San Diego.
