Matadors First-Half Goal Holds Up In 1-0 Women's Soccer Win Over UCR
10/16/2009 9:31:30 PM | Women's Soccer
Cal State Northridge 1, UC Riverside 0
Cal State Northridge striker Farryn Townley took a Katie Fox pass inside the Highlanders box at the 20:13 mark and was able to slide it past UC Riverside goalkeeper Jessica White (pictured) for the lone goal in the Matadors' 1-0 win over UCR.
The Highlanders (5-7-3, 0-4-0) came into the match in search of their first conference win of the season, and trying to break out of the offensive doldrums that have plagued them over their last seven matches. UCR has just two goals during that time, and last scored multiple goals in a match in a 2-0 win over Bowling Green on September 18.
UC Riverside had some opportunities with six shots on goal on the night, but Matadors (7-8-0, 3-2-0) keeper Cynthia Jacobo stopped all six for her second win of the season against zero defeats. White picked up eight saves on the evening taking over the conference lead in that department with 88.
The Highlanders head to UC Irvine on Sunday for a 5 pm match against the Anteaters. UCI is 9-5-1, 2-2-0 on the year and was tied for fourth in the conference with the Matadors heading into this weekend's action.
