Women's Soccer's Unbeaten Streak Ends In 1-0 Loss At Wyoming

All good things must come to an end, and for the UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team, the end to the team's eight-match unbeaten streak came Sunday afternoon in a 1-0 loss to Wyoming at the UniWyo Cowgirl Classic. Kayla Troesh (pictured) had three shots on goal on the day for the Highlanders, but she and her teammates were unable to dent the back of the net in their first loss since August 28 against Oregon State.
UCR outshot Wyoming (5-4-2) in the first period 5-4, but neither team was able to score as they entered halftime in a scoreless tie. However, with 5:09 gone in the second period, Emma Wilson's corner kick found Mara Cosgrove in the box, and her header past Jessica White gave the Cowgirls a 1-0 lead. The Highlanders pushed to pick up the equalizer, but Wyoming's defense held the remainder of the way.
UC Riverside finished up the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 5-3-3 mark. Big West competition begins on Sunday, October 4 with a home match at the UCR Soccer Stadium against Cal State Fullerton beginning at 6 pm.
