Parks' First-Half Goal Leads Women's Soccer To 1-0 Win Over Southern Utah

Ashley Parks (left) scored her first goal of the season midway through the first half for the only goal the Highlanders would need Friday night as they upended the Southern Utah Thunderbirds, 1-0, in the first game of a weekend tournament at UC Irvine. UC Riverside evened its record to 2-2-0 on the year with the win while the Thunderbirds fell to 0-3-0. Next up for the Highlanders is a Sunday, September 6 meeting with Fresno State in their second and final game of the tournament.

Parks broke the scoreless tie with 21:58 gone in the first when she took a Kayla Troesh pass and drilled it over the goalkeeper's head from 25 yards out. It was the seventh career goal for the Etiwanda, CA senior, who leads the Highlanders in scoring this season with three points in four games. The assist was Troesh's first as a collegian.

UC Riverside is now 5-0-0 all time against the Thunderbirds. The five-match winning streak is the longest active streak for the Highlanders against any opponent.
