9/6/2009 12:55:34 PM | Women's Soccer
UC Riverside 1, Fresno State 0
Freshman Kayla Troesh (pictured) scored her first goal as a collegian Sunday morning against Fresno State and it proved to be the game-winner as the Highlanders upended the Bulldogs, 1-0. It is the third consecutive shutout for UC Riverside (3-2-0), and lifts the team over the .500 mark for the first time this season
Troesh's goal, off of a Deborah Musa assist, came with 10:36 gone in the first, and held up the remainder of the way despite Fresno State outshooting the Highlanders, 11-7. UC Riverside goalkeeper Jessica White lowered her goals against average to 0.60 with her 90 shutout minutes and added four saves on the day giving her 22 on the year.
The last time UC Riverside recorded three straight shutouts was at the beginning of the 2008 season when they topped Southern Utah (5-0), CSU Bakersfield (4-0) and Nebraska (1-0). The program record for consecutive shutouts is five accomplished by the 2002 squad.
The Highlanders return home this weekend where they host San Francisco on Friday night at 7 p.m. PT and San Diego State on Sunday at 6 p.m.
