Box Score - Long Beach State 3, UC Riverside 0
Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside women's soccer team (1-10-2, 0-3-0) played the first half to a scoreless draw against Long Beach State, but in the second half the 49ers exploded for three goals to win by a 3-0 margin Friday evening in Big West Conference action at the UCR Soccer Stadium.
The 49ers came into the match with an 8-3-2 mark, and in the first half they outshot the Highlanders 9-3. One shot caromed off of the cross bar, and another cross by the Beach danced along the cross bar only to fall out of harms way.
The teams headed into halftime tied at zero, but Long Beach State broke the tie in the 53rd minute of play. Shawna Gordon passed the ball to Nicole Hubbard 40 yards out, and Hubbard drove straight to the goal fitting a knucleball between UCR keeper Jessica White and the post.
Twelve minutes later, Lindsay Bullock’s shot was punched out by White, but after deflecting off of Camille Berg’s head, Karina Camacho was able to push the ball to the back of the net.
With 15:13 remaining in the match, Jazz Strozier was credited with the final goal of the match as her header off of a Camacho corner kick deflected off a Highlanders defender and into across the goal line.
Kayla Troesh (pictured) and Kristina Noriega led UCR with two shots apiece.
The Highlanders are on the road for two weeks, but they return to the UCR Soccer Stadium on Sunday, October 24th when they take on nationally-ranked UC Irvine at 6 pm. It is senior day for the Highlanders, so fans will want to make their way to the stadium early to enjoy the pregame festivities
