Fullerton Score In 88th Minute Gives Titans 2-1 Win Over Women's Soccer

Fullerton, CA—UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton appeared headed into overtime Thursday evening tied at one in their women's soccer match-up at Titan Stadium, but Casey Volk's header in the 88th minute gave Fullerton the 2-1 victory.
After a scoreless first half, the Highlanders (1-11-2, 0-4-0) got on the board first as Melissa Escamilla picked up her second goal of the season. Her shot with 19:34 to go in the second half nicked the inside of the cross bar and rolled of the fingertips of CSF keeper Jessica Change to give UC Riverside a 1-0 lead.
That lead was short-lived, however, as just over six minutes later Volk found Christina Murillo at the top of the box, and her subsequent shot found its way to the lower left corner of the goal for her seventh score of the season and a 1-1 tie.
The Titans (5-9-0. 2-1-0) netted the game-winner with 2:22 remaining in regulation as Volk's header off of Caitlin Mellano's free kick ended the scoring.
UC Riverside goalkeeper Jessica White had eight saves on the evening raising her conference leading total to 79.
The Highlanders travel to Cal State Northridge on Sunday, October 17 for a 6 pm meeting with the Matadors. Then it is back to UC Riverside for Senior Nite on Sunday, October 24 against UC Irvine also at 6 pm.
