San Jose State 3, UC Riverside 0 Box Score
San Jose, CA—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team finished its four-match road trip Sunday with a disappointing 3-0 loss at San Jose State. The loss drops the HIghlanders to 1-5-0 on the season while the Spartans improve to 2-5-0.
UCR continues to struggle on the offensive end of the pitch as the Highlanders were shutout for the fifth time in six matches this season despite outshooting San Jose State, 9-8, and enjoying a 7-2 advantage on corner kicks.
On the defensive side of the ball, UC Riverside came into the match having allowed just four goals over its previous six matches dating back to last season. The Spartans put UC Riverside on its collective heals early as they scored their first two goals in the first 19 minutes of play. Shanelle Fumer picked up her first score of the season on a cross from Alex Jimenez with 14:39 gone in the period, and Katie Knopp scored her second goal of the year from 20 yards out in the 19th minute of play.
San Jose State's third goal of the match came off the foot of Jessica Ingram with 16:26 remaining in the second half..
The Highlanders return home for two matches this weekend at the UCR Soccer Stadium. Portland State travels to the Inland Empire for a Friday, September 17 match with a 7 pm PT kick off, and on Sunday, September 19, Utah State comes to town for a 1 pm start.
