10/16/2011 8:02:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Santa Barbara, CA—UC Riverside goalkeeper Sara Slaughter stopped seven UC Santa Barbara shots Sunday evening, but it wasn't enough as the Gauchos scored two second-half goals en route to a 2-0 win over the Highlanders. (Box Score)
The loss drops UCR to 7-7-1 on the season, including 2-2-0, in Big West play while UCSB improves to 6-9-2 and 1-4-0 in conference.
Both teams produced five shots on goal in the first 45 minutes of play, but neither squad could find the back of the net.
The Gauchos' Erin Ortega broke the scoreless tie five minutes and 55 seconds into the second period as she intercepted a pass in the Highlanders' defensive end, drove untouched into the box, and beat Slaughter for the 1-0 lead.
It was still 1-0 UCSB until the 80th minute of play when Dyanne Anderson's cross found Indiana Meed eight yards out for her second goal of the season.
The Highlanders remain on the road this week as they travel to Long Beach State on Friday for a 3 pm PT meeting with the 49ers.
