Michigan Escapes With 1-0 Win Over UCR On Second Half Penalty Kick

Riverside—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team battled Michigan for 90 minutes Friday evening at the UCR Soccer Stadium, but it was the Wolverines coming away with the 1-0 win thanks to a second-half penalty kick. (Box Score)
Shots were nearly even in the first period with Michigan owning a 9-7 advantage through the first 45 minutes of play. UCR keeper Jessica Olafsen recorded six of her nine saves on the evening in the first half.
Michigan controlled possession of the ball early in the second, but it wasn't until Kristy Adcock was whistled for a penalty in the UCR box in the 69th minute of play that the Wolverines were able to dent the scoreboard. Clare Stachel shot her penalty kick low and to the right, and Olafsen was unable to come up with the ball.
UC Riverside pressed for the equalizer, but was unable to penetrate the Wolverines defenses as the PK stood up as the lone goal of the match.
The Highlanders next host the Southern Utah Thunderbiirds on Sunday, September 4. Time of the match is 12 pm PT.
