Stockton, CA—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team ran its unbeaten streak to three matches in a row Friday evening as Jessica Cortez's goal in the 94th minute gave the Highlanders a 3-2 overtime victory over the Pacific Tigers (3-13-1, 0-7-1).
Alex Duran put UCR (7-9-3, 2-5-1) on the scoreboard first as she intercepted a pass in the Tigers defensive end and ricocheted the ball off of Pacific keeper Katherine Larsen to make it 1-0 UC Riverside.
The Tigers' Brittni Beeman tied the score up with a header eight minutes prior to halftime, but Tyler Cunningham put UCR on top again with just 45 seconds gone in the second with her second goal of the season.
It looked like the Highlanders had the win in hand until Beeman broke free for her second score of the evening with 6:04 to go in the match.
Neither team was able to dent the back of the net during the remainder of regulation, and UC Riverside was headed to overtime for the seventh time this season. The Highlanders were 2-1-3 in their six prior overtime matches with Cortez providing the winning margin in UCR's 3-2 victory over UTEP on September 2 (box score/recap).
She provided the margin of victory again with 3:39 gone in the first overtime thanks to a Cunningham assist as the Highlanders moved into a tie for seventh place in the Big West Conference.
