Women's Soccer Remains In First Place With 3-1 Win Over Cal State Fullerton

Riverside—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team is still in first place in the Big West thanks to a 1-0 victory over visiting Cal State Fullerton Sunday evening (Box Score/Video Recap).

The win improved the Highlanders record to 3-1 in conference which ties them with UC Irvine for the best record in the Big West. Cal Poly (2-1) is a half game back pending the outcome of their Sunday night match at Hawai'i which got underway at 8 pm PT.

It didn't take long for UC Riverside to take the lead as Kelly Velasquez found goalkeeper-turned-forward Jessica Olafsen in the Titans' box for the first goal of her career with just 3:51 gone in the first (Watch October 1 interview with Olafsen).

Cal State Fullerton pushed for the equalizer the rest of the match, unleashing 10 shots including seven on goal. But Highlanders keeper Elizabeth Silas kept the UC Riverside net clean for her third shutout of the season.

UCR's next test comes this weekend as the Highlanders head out on the road for a pair of matches at UC Santa Barbara on Friday, October 18 at 7 pm, and at Cal Poly on Sunday, October 20 at noon.
