Women's Soccer's Postseason Aspirations Take A Hit With 2-1 Loss To UC Davis

Riverside—With just two conference matches left in the regular season, the UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team needed a victory Thursday evening to increase its chances of securing a Big West Conference postseason berth, but UC Davis scored two second-half goals to dim the Highlanders hopes with a 2-1 win (Box Score).

UC Riverside (6-11-1, 3-4-0) jumped on top first when Alexa Bustamante headed Celina Valencia's corner kick past UC Davis (5-4-7, 2-2-1) keeper Taylor Jern in the 18th minute of play.

Moments later, Tyler Cunningham had an opportunity to put the Highlanders up 2-0, but her shot rolled just left of the goal.

The Aggies scored the equalizer with 17:03 gone in the second half threading together four passes driving the length of the field. Kiele Argente was the recipient of the final touch for her second goal of the year.

Both teams continued to push for the tie-breaker, but it was UC Davis going the length of the field yet again, as Lexi Poppoff beat Elizabeth Silas with what would prove to be the game-winner.

The Highlanders host non-conference foe Montana on Friday, November 1 at 7 pm PT. It is the final home match of the season for UC Riverside, and the team will honor its senior class in ceremonies prior to the match.
