Big West Names Elizabeth Silas Conference Defensive Player Of The Week

Irvine, CA—The Big West announced today that UC Riverside goalkeeper Elizabeth Silas is the conference's Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for matches played from September 22-28.
The junior recorded her third complete-game shutout of the season on Friday vs. Duquesne, collecting six saves including the stop of a penalty kick early in the first half (box score/recap/video recap). She then helped the Highlanders nearly engineer an upset of sixth-ranked Texas Tech, recording four saves, but UCR came up just short in a 3-2 defeat (box score/recap).
Silas ranks third in the Big West with 39 saves and is tied for first with five wins this season.
UC Riverside begins Big West Conference play this weekend on the road at UC Davis on Thursday, October 2 at 4 pm PT, and at Hawai'i on Sunday, October 5 at 8 pm.
