Women's Soccer vs. Northern Iowa Postponed Due To Thunderstorm

Rescheduled For Monday, September 8
Riverside—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team (2-1-1) was locked in a 0-0, second-half tie with Northern Iowa (1-3-1) Sunday afternoon, when the skies opened up dropping a mountain of water on the field. The tent covering where players check in to the match was whisked away by gusts of wind which deposited it more than 100 feet from where it could do anybody any good. Its finally resting place,, over the fence separating the field from the Materials Science and Engineering Building.
As support staff scrambled to cover laptops, protect video cameras and keep other tents around the stadium from blowing onto the field, the teams played on. But once the corner in front of the visiting bench began to take the form of a wading pool, even the officiating crew had to concede that enough was enough.
The Panthers have adjuted their travel plans, and the teams will try to get the match in again on Monday, September 8 beginning at 9 am. The match will be replayed in its entirety.
