Phoeniz, AZ—The UC Riverside Women's Volleyball Team got 16 kills from Helena Peric and 15 from Alexis Urbach, but dropped a four-set decision to Northern Arizona at the Grand Canyon Invitational.
The Highlanders took a two-match winning streak into the match against the Lumberjacks, having topped Central Michigan, 3-0, and Grand Canyon, 3-1, in their two matches prior.
NAU took control of the first set early turning a 4-3 deficit into an 11-6 lead. The Highlanders came storming back, however, tying the match at 18 before taking a one-point lead, 20-19. The Lumberjacks scored six straight points to close out the match thanks to two UCR attack errors, and a pair of kills by Payton Bock and Janae VanDer Ploeg.
A 10-1 run midway through the second set allowed Northern Arizona to turn a 13-11 lead into a 23-11 cushion, as the 'Jacks won the set handily.
NAU appeared ready to close out the match in the third, leading 13-10, but the Highlanders rallied to go up 16-15, and scored five of the final eight points of the set to cut the Lumberjacks lead in half.
Northern Arizona scored the first two points of the fourth set, and never looked back as they closed out the match with a 25-16 victory.
The Highlanders complete their three matches at the Grand Canyon Invitational later today with a 3pm PT start against Boise State (Live Stats).
