
Highlanders Fall on the Road to UC Irvine

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside offense was stifled by UC Irvine, 2-0, on the road at Anteater Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Highlanders went out aggressive, with their first attempt on goal coming in the second minute of play. However, UCI defense held UC Riverside to just two shots across 90 minutes and UCR was unable to convert either of their opportunities.
- Meanwhile, the Anteaters challenged UC Riverside keeper Cassia Souza with 16 shots across the duration of the match.
- The Anteaters' first goal came off of a converted penalty kick at the end of the first half. The ball landed in the net after brushing off the tips of Souza's gloves.
- UCI scored again in the 62nd minute of play, with an Anteater volley finishing in the upper right corner of the net from across the box.
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
- Charisma Benitez threatened first for the Highlanders, with a shot on goal shortly after kickoff in the first half.
- Sarah Assumma was responsible for the Highlanders second attempt, taking her shot in the 66', but she failed to find her target.
UP NEXT
- UC Riverside will return home next to host Long Beach State on Thursday, October 19 for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff from UCR Soccer Stadium on ESPN+.
