SACRAMENTO, Calif. – UC Riverside looked to bounce back off their 2-0 loss to UC Irvine last week and Sacramento State looked for their third win of the year. It was the Hornets' day taking the match, 3-1.

The Highlanders' Adrian Diaz got the first shot of the game but missed the target. Then in the 3' of play UCR's starting keeper, Giancarlo Sagredo, was issued a red card for a serious foul play and the Highlanders would have to play the next 87' a man down. Andrew Hermosillo replaced Sagredo in net.

The Hornets struck for two in the first half and Hiroshi Yang got them both. The first goal came in the 28' off his right foot into the top right corner and Yang's second goal came in the 40' this time off his left foot.

The Highlanders in the first half only posted two shots and neither on target.

After entering the match in the 63' Santiago Barros Schelotto recorded his first career goal as a Highlander. It came in the 64' in the lower left corner of the goal cutting the Hornet lead to 2-1.

However, the Hornets struck back and pushed the lead back up to two goals when Zac Giles recorded his fourth goal of the year making it, 3-1. It came in the 77' of play and the Highlanders had their work cut out for them.

In the end it was too much to overcome for UC Riverside as they dropped their second straight and third match overall.

Next up for the Highlanders is Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday, September 30 at the UCR Soccer Stadium. It starts at 7PM.
