Oregon State 3, UC Riverside 0 - Box Score
Irvine, CA—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team hung tough with the 17th-ranked team in the nation Sunday afternoon, but following a red card in the 72nd minute, the Highlanders (1-7-2) were forced to play a man down, and Oregon State (6-1-1) came away with a 3-0 win.
The teams played evenly through the first half with the Beavers managing three shots on goal to UC Riverside's one, but with 24:40 gone in the second, OSU's Courtney Wetzel found Erin Uchacz in the box for a 1-0 Beavers advantage. It was the first goal the Highlanders had allowed in 298-plus minutes of play.
Less than two minutes later, UC Riverside's Kristy Adcock got tangled with an Oregon State player and was taken down to the ground. As the two separated, Adcock shoved her counterpart drawing a red card from official Mohamed Mahmoud.
The Highlanders played the final 18:44 down a man, which enabled the Beavers to score two additional goals. Both came off of rebounds as Wetzel picked up her first score of the year with 15:04 left in the match and Chelsea Buckland made it a 3-0 match in the 88th minute of play with her fourth goal of the season.
Jessica White turned away six shots on the day upping her conference-leading total to 55. She was named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts as was defender Candis Novis.
Big West Conference play gets underway next weekend as the Highlanders host UC Santa Barbara at the UCR Soccer Stadium on Friday, October 1. Kick off is slated for 7 pm PT.
