Las Vegas, NV—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team bounced back from a season-opening loss to host UNLV Friday evening, by securing a 1-1 tie against Idaho on Sunday morning in the final match of the UNLV Rebel Classic for both teams. (Box Score)
The Highlanders (0-1-1) got on the board first as Kayde Hensley scored the first goal of her career unassisted in the 27th minute of play.
"Kayde's goal was brilliant, and I thought we played very well overall considering the circumstances," said Head Coach Veronica O'Brien. "We had very little recovery time coming off of Friday's late match and the heat today was definitely a factor.
"Overall, we have to get better at putting the game away," she continued. "We missed four breakaway opportunities, and made a few decisions we'd like to have back, but that will come with experience as our younger players become more acclimated to the college game."
Idaho's Chelsea Small connected from the top of the box to the right post to tie the match with 36:08 gone. The team's combined to take 16 shots after the break, but none found the back of the net. The Vandals had a 16-11 overall advantage in shots, but a just a 7-5 edge in shots on goal as UC Riverside keeper Jessica White recorded six saves on the day.
