Riverside—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team hosts Houston Baptist this Friday, August 24 at 7 pm PT trying to move to 3-0 on the year for just the third time in the 12-year history of the program. The Highlanders finish out the weekend by traveling to nationally-ranked Santa Clara (#17 NSCAA/#21 Soccer America) on Sunday, August 26, for a 1 pm kick off.
UCR picked up a pair of 2-1 victories to start the 2012 campaign last weekend dispensing with CSU Bakersfield in the season opener (Watch Video Highlights) and upending Southern Utah in overtime to remain perfect on the year. Offensively, the teams is spreading the wealth thus far, with four different players responsible for each of the four goals.
This is the first meetimg ever for the Highlanders against both the Huskies and Broncos. Houston Baptist opened its 2012 season with a 1-0 win over UT San Antonio before falling 3-2 at Houston. Santa Clara, meanwhile, held a 1-0 lead over top-ranked Stanford, before the Cardinal unleashed a flurry of goals in the final 45 minutes of play to take a 6-1 win.

GAME NOTES
WELCOME BACK
UC Riverside's new head women's soccer coach has a familiar look about him: Nat Gonzalez, who took over the team this winter, was the Highlanders head men's soccer coach from 2001-03, restarting a program that lay dormant for a number of years prior to UC Riverside making the transition to Division I.
GONE STREAKING
The Highlanders have won two straight games to open a season for the fifth time in their 12-year history. They have moved to 3-0 on the year on two occasions, most recently in 2008.

DEUCES ARE WILD
The Highlanders have scored two goals in each of their first two matches in 2012. The last time they scored two or more goals in three consecutive matches was during a streak of five straight wrapped around the 2006 to 2007 seasons (three matches to close out 2006, Oct. 20, 25, 29; and two matches to start 2007, Aug. 31, Sept. 2).
WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES
Two years ago, the Highlanders suffered through a one-win season that produced just three goals all year long. In 2011, however, UC Riverside picked up eight wins on the season, remaining in the hunt for a Big West Conference postseason berth until the final match of the season, while denting the back of the net on 21 occasions.
SPREADING THE WEALTH
Ten members of the Highlanders dented the back of the net last year which is the most goal scorers the team has posted in a season since 2007 when 12 players etched their names into the scoring column. So far in 2012, four players have scored for UC Riverside.
KEEPING IT REAL
UC Riverside incumbent goalkeeper Jessica White was sidelined with an injury for all but two matches last season, but Jessica Olafsen stepped in admirably posting a goals against average of 1.26 in 11 matches.
Olafsen was named the conference defensive player of the week on September 5, 2011 as she allowed just one goal, on a penalty kick, in two matches for a goals against average of 0.50 for the week. She also stopped 17 of 18 shots on goal during those two matches.
White is back between the pipes this season and boasts a 0.89 gaa so far through two matches.
