Riverside—The UC Riverside women's soccer team hosts New Mexico State this Friday, August 31 at 7 pm PT as part of the UCR Tournament. The Highlanders will finish out the weekend by hosting University of Texas-El Paso on Sunday, Sept. 2, for a 1 pm kick off.
UCR saw its two-match winning streak come to an end last weekend, dropping a pair of games to Houston Baptist and 17th-ranked Santa Clara. The Highlanders outshot HBU 17-8, but allowed a late goal to fall 1-0 on Friday night. UCR traveled to Santa Clara on Sunday to take on the Broncos. Highlanders goalie Jessica White made nine saves, but the Broncos' offensive firepower proved to be too much with the match ending in a 3-0 decision.
New Mexico State will travel to UCR looking to get its first win of the season. The Aggies have yet to score a goal, being shutout by Boise State, 1-0, and Idaho State, 2-0, in their first two matches.
UTEP brings a 3-1 record to UCR, with its only loss coming on Aug. 19 at Utah State. Senior Tess Hall is leading the way for the Miners, scoring four of the team's nine total goals. This is the first meeting ever for the Highlanders against both the Aggies and the Miners.
UTEP will take on Southern Utah for the first game of the tournament on Friday at 4 pm with the UCR vs. New Mexico State game following. The tournament will continue on Sunday with New Mexico State playing Southern Utah at 10 am with UCR vs. UTEP following to close out the tournament.

GAME NOTES
WELCOME BACK
UC Riverside's new head women's soccer coach has a familiar look about him: Nat Gonzalez, who took over the team this winter, was the Highlanders head men's soccer coach from 2001-03, restarting a program that lay dormant for a number of years prior to UC Riverside making the transition to Division I.
GONE STREAKING
The Highlanders won two straight games to open a season for the fifth time in their 12-year history. The Highlanders saw their streak come to an end on Friday, August 24, falling 1-0 to Houston Baptist.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES
Two years ago, the Highlanders suffered through a one-win season that produced just three goals all year long. In 2011, however, UC Riverside picked up eight wins on the season, remaining in the hunt for a Big West Conference postseason berth until the final match of the season, while denting the back of the net on 21 occasions.
SPREADING THE WEALTH
Ten members of the Highlanders dented the back of the net last year which is the most goal scorers the team has posted in a season since 2007 when 12 players etched their names into the scoring column. So far in 2012, four players have scored for UC Riverside.
KEEPING IT REAL
UC Riverside incumbent goalkeeper Jessica White was sidelined with an injury for all but two matches last season, but Jessica Olafsen stepped in admirably posting a goals against average of 1.26 in 11 matches.
Olafsen was named the conference defensive player of the week on September 5, 2011 as she allowed just one goal, on a penalty kick, in two matches for a goals against average of 0.50 for the week. She also stopped 17 of 18 shots on goal during those two matches.
White is back between the pipes this season and has a 1.41 gaa so far through four matches.
