UC Irvine Scores Pair Late In First Half En Route To 2-0 Victory Over Women's Soccer
10/10/2013 8:54:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Riverside—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team was trying to improve to 3-0 on the year in Big West play, but UC Irvine scored a pair of late first half goals on its way to a 2-0 victory (Box Score).
The Anteaters outshot the Highlanders (5-8-1, 2-1-0) six to one in the first period, and it was the final two shots of the half that did the damage. With 2:47 to go before the break, Natalie Ledezma drove a Jasmine Nickelberry corner kick into the back of the UC Riverside net to put Irvine in front.
Less than a minute later, Nickelberry had her second assist of the match as she fed Bianca Frontino who slotted a shot just inside the left post for a 2-0 'Eaters advantage.
That was all the offense UC Irvine (7-5-0, 2-1-0) would need as they held the Highlanders to just four shots on the night.
UC Riverside returns to the Inland Empire this weekend for a 6 pm Sunday meeting with Cal State Fullerton.
