Las Cruces, NM-Senior Andrea Morales's score in the 95th minute was the difference maker Sunday afternoon as the UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team picked up a 2-1 overtime victory at New Mexico State (Box Score).
The Highlanders got on the board first as sophomore Crystal Lopez recorded her first score of the season punching home a penalty kick attempt in the 32nd minute of play. That score held until the 52:0t mark as Mary Kate Koziol notched her second goal of the season off of a 40-yard shot from the middle of the pitch.
Both defenses held serve the rest of the half as neither team recorded a shot on goal during regulation after Koziol's score. But in the fifth minute of the first overtime period, freshman Kelly Velasquez found Morales in front of the net for the game-winner. It was the fifth game-winning goal in Morales's career.
The Highlanders return home this Friday for a 7 pm PT kick off, Friday, September 13 against Fresno State.
