Riverside—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team returns home this weekend for a Friday, September 13 match-up against Fresno State at 7 pm PT before traveling to CSU Bakersfield to take on the Roadrunners on Sunday, September 15, at 7 pm.
The Highlanders are 2-3-1 following last week's road matches at University of Texas El Paso, where they lost 2-0 (box score/recap), and New Mexico State, whom they beat 2-1 in overtime (box score/recap). Freshman Kelly Velasquez assisted on senior Andrea Morales goal in the 95th minute of play to secure the victory against the Aggies.
Fresno State is coming onto the Highlander's turf on a two-match winning streak which featured victories over Gonzaga and Eastern Washington. Prior to that, the Bulldogs opened the season with three straight defeats including two to Big West Conference foes (2-0 at UC Santa Barbara and 1-0 at Cal State Fullerton). The Highlanders all-time-record against Fresno State is 4-0-2.
CSU Bakersfield has struggled the past several matches losing to Cal Poly, Sacramento State, Northern Arizona, and Portland State, following a season-opening victory over Southern Utah. The Roadrunners take on UC Santa Barbara this Friday to try and end their slump before making their way to the Inland Empire. UC Riverside is 2-1-0 all-time-record against the Roadrunners.
