
Highlanders Fall to UC San Diego

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside hosted UC San Diego on Saturday night at the SRC Arena, falling 3-0 to the Tritons in the continuation of a six-match home stand.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UCR kicked off the match with a lengthy rally before Coco Ikpe put down the first kill from the left pin. The Highlanders led 15-14 at the first media timeout with neither team holding more than a two-point advantage.Â
- Delaney Tate and Sydnee Rowe led UCR in set one with three kills apiece while Beatriz Silva and Makena Tong led with six assists each.Â
- The Highlanders hit .103 in set two, but got out to a 2-1 lead in set three after a booming kill from Ana Beatriz Nunes at the net. UCR and the Tritons traded jabs early with Sophia Ewalefo putting down an emphatic kill to make it 4-4.Â
- Rowe recorded her fifth kill of the afternoon prior to a media timeout in set three, and was one of four Highlanders with at least four kills at that point.Â
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
- Nikki Hughes made her third Big West appearance and second straight, subbing in during set two and finishing her night with a kill.Â
- Ewalefo led UCR in kills for the third consecutive match, notching seven. The New Orleans transfer was one of seven Highlanders with multiple kills on the night.Â
- Makena Tong and Beatriz Silva were each two digs shy of their second straight double doubles.Â
