Riverside—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team gets a double dose of the Grand Canyon State this weekend as the Highlanders travel to Arizona for a 4:30 pm meeting with the Wildcats on Friday, and host Northern Arizona on Sunday at 7 pm.
UC Riverside went 1-1 in its opening weekend of play falling 3-2 to UNLV at home Friday (box score/recap/video recap) and topping San Jose State, 2-1 in overtime (box score/recap), Sunday as part of the University of San Diego Tournament. Freshman forward Tatum Lockett and sophomore goalkeeper Elizabeth Silas were named to the All-Tournament Team for their performance on Sunday (Press Release).
Arizona began its 2013 campaign with a perfect 2-0 weekend securing road victories against FIU (4-2) and Florida Atlantic (1-0). This is the first meeting ever between the Highlanders and Wildcats.
Northern Arizona also started the season undefeated picking up a 1-0 road win at Long Beach State and a 3-2 home victory over Lamar. NAU travels to CSU Bakersfield on Friday night before heading to the Inland Empire. The Highlanders and Lumberjacks split their two previous meetings, but the teams have not played one another since the 2005 season.

ROOKIE RECKONING
In the Highlanders' 2-1, season-opening win a year ago over CSU Bakersfield (box score/recap) Crystal Lopez became the first UC Riverside rookie since Ciara Hilpert in 2008, to score a goal in the first match of her career. Hilpert did it in the Highlanders 5-0 win over Southern Utah on August 22 of that year (box score/recap).
Lopez tied for the team lead in scoring a year ago with four goals and an assist for nine points becoming the fourth freshman to lead the team in scoring in the program's history: Melisa Escamilla (2010, 2 goals, 0 assists, 4 points); Renee Scachetti (2003, 7 goals, 4 assists, 18 points); and Jessica Armel (2002, 4 goals, 1 assist, 9 points).
DOUBLE DIPPING
In UC Riverside's 2-1 overtime win over San Jose State on August 25, Tatum Lockett became the first Highlanders player to score two goals in a match since Tessa Lennala scored a pair at Cal State Fullerton on October 26, 2008 (Box Score/Recap). Lockett also became the 10th UC Riverside freshmen to score two goals in the same match, and the first since Kacie McElrath and Brittany Coulter both notched a pair vs. Nevada on August 29, 2004.
