Cedar City, UT—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team heads to Southern Utah to take on the Thunderbirds this Friday, September 20 at 12 pm before retuning to the Inland Empire to host an 11 am match against the Tulsa Hurricane this Sunday, September 22.
The Highlanders are 3-4-1 following a pair of matches last week against Fresno State and CSU Bakersfield. Against the Bulldogs, both teams were held scoreless in regulation, but in the 98th minute Fresno State's Shonice Myers found Lauren Lindstrom on a corner kick for the 1-0 shutout victory (box score/recap).
UC Riverside picked up the split on the week two days later against the Roadrunners as sophomore Alexa Bustamante scored both of the team's goals in a 2-0 win (box score/recap). Her first strike came in the 14th minute where she headed in a pass from Amber Marani. The duo paired up again in the 53rd minute to give the Highlanders a 2-0 lead.
Southern Utah is 2-5-0 on the season, but has dropped four straight including a pair last weekend to Arizona and Arizona State at the Arizona Cats Classic. The Thunderbirds upended UC Santa Barbara 4-3 prior to the losing streak. The Highlanders have never lost to Southern Utah in seven meetings.
Tulsa is 5-2 heading into the week with the Hurricane's most recent result coming in a 3-2 loss to nationally-ranked Penn State. Cal State Northridge hosts Tulsa on Friday before the Hurricane make their way to the UC Riverside Soccer Stadium on Sunday. This is the first-ever meeting between the Highlanders and Hurricane.

Hilpert did it in the Highlanders 5-0 win over Southern Utah on August 22 of that year (box score/recap).
Lopez tied for the team lead in scoring a year ago with four goals and an assist for nine points becoming the fourth freshman to lead the team in scoring in the program's history: Melisa Escamilla (2010, 2 goals, 0 assists, 4 points); Renee Scachetti (2003, 7 goals, 4 assists, 18 points); and Jessica Armel (2002, 4 goals, 1 assist, 9 points).

Alexa Bustamante supplanted Lockett as the most recent member of the Highlanders to dent the back of the net twice in the same match, as her two headers accounted for all of UC Riverside's scoring in a 2-0 win over CSu Bakersfield on September 15 (box score/recap)
Lockett also became the 10th UC Riverside freshmen to score two goals in the same match, and the first since Kacie McElrath and Brittany Coulter both notched a pair vs. Nevada on August 29, 2004.
