Maggie Himmelberg-Stelluti transferred to UC Riverside from UNLV and, during her senior season of 1981, she became the first Highlanders volleyball player to be named Most Valuable Player of the California Collegiate Athletic Association. That same season, she led the Highlanders to the first NCAA-sponsored postseason tournament. She went on to play volleyball professionally (another first for a UC Riverside player) in Italy for six seasons. Himmelberg-Stelluti, who received her degree from UC Riverside in 1985, passed away from cancer in 1995.
